When the Shelter in Place order came, I found myself alone in my apartment. No pets, no roommate – just me and my fern, Fergus. “What can I do to make us feel not so alone (and by us, mean everyone)?” I wondered. I started doing poetry readings on Instagram, at night. I did it for a year. Every night. About halfway through the year, I switched over to putting them on IGTV rather than the disappearing stories section. You can view them here.
Every Saturday night, I would perform one of my own poems from my 2019 Speed Poetry project, which you can get an overview of, here. So much poetry, so little time! Most poetry readings were between 3-5 minutes, but I saved my favorite LONG poem (below) for last. People still tell me they miss the nightly readings, which is nice.
